PUTRAJAYA: Lebih sejuta wanita berusia antara 25 hingga 64 tahun (18.8 peratus) di negara ini dikategorikan sebagai gemuk, sekali gus terdedah kepada risiko mengalami pelbagai penyakit kronik, termasuk serangan jantung, kencing manis dan strok.

Kajian Bahagian Kawalan Penyakit Kementerian Kesihatan tahun lalu mendapati 20 peratus penduduk dewasa dan 21 peratus kanak-kanak di negara ini mengalami masalah 3G, iaitu gebu, gempal dan gemuk dengan wanita mencatatkan peratusan lebih tinggi berbanding lelaki.

(sebelum saya ceritakan kisah benar ini, saya ingin meminta maaf terlebih dahulu kepada nama yang kebetulan terlibat)
Saya bersyukur penyakit SWINE FLU ini ditranslate sebagai SELSEMA BABI, bukannya SELSEMA KHINZIR. Dulu sekajap, di TV/radio/paper, entah sapa mulakan (tak pasti) pandai-pandai depa tukar BABI itu kepada KHINZIR.

I have a friend whose name is KHIZIR (bro, maafkan aku citer benda ni). During JE time, we have to say/call his name properly using exact pronounce either in the meeting or lepak time. If not - if you call - En. Khinzir, pehhh, kecik hati brader ni...actually aku pun sedih jugak...pasal kadang-kadang tersasul...

Memang dia kecik hati pun kat orang Malaysia yang suka-suka tukar BABI ke Khinzir. Tapi now OK, back to BABI.

this morning, went to see doctor for consultation/check-up. for the past few days, i've felt dizziness especially few seconds (about 10-15 seconds) after lying down to bed; and same thing after getting up. it is like -- oh, the ceiling is spinning!!! i thot of virtigo (knew this from a fren who used to have this problem before). or early symptom/sign of virtigo or high blood pressure, sort of.

she did check my blood pressure and it was 90/60 -- considered low blood pressure --- or, hypotension. Alhamdulillah, she said it just temporary (i hope so, InsyaAllah) and wish to see me again if no improvement.

(and for info, normal blood pressure is 120/80).

...hmmm...lepas ni kena makan makanan yang bagi darah naik tinggi la pulak...

Supermarkets To Be Screened For China Milk Based Products
BENTONG, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said checks will be made on supermarkets and shops to screen for milk based products from China."Whether it is purely milk, or any kind of food like cookies which contain dairy milk from China will be checked and samples taken for the Chemistry Department to analyse."Cooperation from the wholesalers, consumers and related parties are needed. We are very concerned about the health of consumers and do not want it to cost lives," he said after giving Aidilfitri aid to the poor here Tuesday.No time frame was given for the checks to be conducted.Liow said the checks were necessary as Singapore health authorities had found melamine in "White Rabbit Creamy Candy".

He said the government would not compromise and would seize milk based products from China to protect children from products tainted with melamine.Melamine is an industrial material used in the manufacturing of plastic and fertiliser.Rich in nitrogen, it could raise the protein level when mixed with milk. It is prohibited in food production.

Coxsackievirus is the name of two groups of enteroviruses - a genus associated with several human and mammalian diseases.

The most well known Coxsackie A disease is hand, foot and mouth disease, a common childhood illness which affect mostly children aged 10 or under 1, often produced by Coxsackie A16. In others, infection produces short-lived (7-10 days) fever and painful blisters in the mouth. On the palms and fingers of the hand, or on the soles of the feet. There can also be blister in the throat, or on or above the tonsils. Adults can also be affected. The rash, which can appear several days after high temperature and painful sore throat, can be itchy and painful, especially on the hands/fingers and bottom of feet.

Symptoms of infection with viruses in the Coxsackie B grouping include fever, headache, sore throat, gastrointestinal distress, as well as chest & muscle pain. Sufferers of chest pain should see a doctor immediately - in some cases, viruses in the Coxsackie B family progress to myocarditis or pericarditis, which can result in permanent heart damage or death. Coxsackie B virus infection may also induce aseptic meningitis. As a group, they are the most common cause of unexpected sudden death, and may account for up to 50% of such cases.

Contagiousness
Coxsackieviruses are very contagious. They can be passed from person to person on unwashed hands and surfaces contaminated by feces. They can also be spread through droplets of fluid sprayed into the air when someone sneezes or coughs.

When an outbreak affects a community, risk for coxsackievirus infection is highest among infants and children younger than 5. The virus spreads easily in group settings like schools, child-care centers, or summer camps. People who are infected with a coxsackievirus are most contagious the first week they're sick.

Prevention
There is no vaccine to prevent coxsackievirus infection. Hand washing is the best protection. Remind everyone in your family to wash their hands frequently, particularly after using the toilet (especially those in public places), after changing a diaper, before meals, and before preparing food. Shared toys in child-care centers should be routinely cleaned with a disinfectant because the virus can live on these objects for days.

See doctor immediately if your child develops any of the following symptoms:

-diarrhea
-difficulty breathing
-convulsions
-unusual sleepiness
-pain in the chest or abdomen
-sores on the skin or inside the mouth
