Zahar sah sertai PAS
Oleh ZANARIAH ABD. MUTALIB
Terperinci klik tajuk. Baca juga SINI & profil Datuk Zahar di SINI.
A power disruption left 173 passengers stranded above ground in the Singapore Flyer – the world's biggest observation wheel - for about six hours yesterday. The stoppage – which occurred at about 5:00 pm – was caused by a small electrical fire. It was the Flyer’s fourth since it began operations early this year, but was by far the worst. Shocked passengers spoke of the ordeal of being stuck in stuffy capsules when the air-conditioning went off. Some among those trapped reportedly resorted to urinating in plastic bags while they were hanging in the air. Ten passengers were rescued using sling-like harnesses while the other 163 walked out when power was restored at about at about 11:11 pm. A spokesperson for the Flyer said investigations are ongoing, and the wheel would remain closed at least until Thursday.

---‘I’m not qualified to land,’ pilot tells passengers
A BRITISH passenger plane was forced to turn back minutes before landing in Paris because the pilot was not qualified to land in fog. Speaking over the address system as the Flybe flight approached Charles de Gaulle airport, the pilot announced to startled passengers “I am not qualified to land the plane” and turned back to Cardiff. A spokeswoman for the low-cost airline said the pilot was “an experienced aviator with more than 30 years commercial aviation experience flying a number of different passenger aircraft types.”
“He has relatively recently transferred his ‘type-rating’ from a Bombardier Q300 to a Bombardier Q400 and has not yet completed the requisite low-visibility training to complete a landing in conditions such as the dense fog experienced in Paris Charles de Gaulle,” she said.
“The captain therefore quite correctly turned the aircraft around and returned to Cardiff; a decision which the company stands by 100 per cent.”
One passenger, 29-year-old Cassandra Grant, said she had missed a job interview in the French capital as a result.
She told the South Wales Echo newspaper: “Twenty minutes outside Paris, the captain said, ‘Unfortunately I’m not qualified to land the plane in Paris. They are asking for a level two qualification and I only have a level five. We’ll have to fly back.
“The whole thing beggars belief. If I had not been on the plane, I would not have believed it.”
The British Civil Aviation Authority described the incident as “quite unusual but probably not unheard of.
“I guess he thought when he initially took off that conditions would be suitable for him to land,” a spokesman said.
“There are different classifications of aircraft and when an aircraft is updated, pilots who have flown an older version have to completely retrain.
“Different climatic conditions like fog require a certain level of skill and he probably didn’t have the level of training required for this particular aircraft.”

Guy Ritchie could get £21 million less in his divorce settlement from Madonna.
The singer has released two conflicting statements regarding the payout, sparking confusion over how much the 'RocknRolla' director will receive in total.
The first statement from Madonna's spokesperson Liz Rosenberg, released on Monday (15.12.08), stated Guy would receive between £50 and £60 million in cash and property.
But in a following email to the BBC, Madonna's team claimed Guy would get $60-70 million - which converts to between £39 and £46 million.Details, click subject.
---Tanam 150 susuk berlian pikat VIP
Klik subjek.

Madoff's massive dupe
MADRID: Two months after being hammered by the collapse of global investment bank Lehman Brothers, banks and investment funds in Europe are trembling in the face of the massive fraud allegedly perpetrated by New York broker Bernard Madoff.
Private European banks and investors specialised in the placement of high-risk hedge funds could have exposure of up to several billion dollars in the scandal.
Madoff was arrested last Thursday for allegedly defrauding his customers through a giant pyramid scheme, with prosecutors alleging that the 70-year-old, a decades-long veteran of Wall Street, confessed to losing at least US50 billion (RM178.7 billion) in the so-called Ponzi scheme.Details - click subject
